He was a part of Major League Baseball for the Cincinnati Reds and Baltimore Orioles between 2009 and 2011.
Tatum was summoned from Triple-A’s minors Louisville Bats on 19 July 2009 following the start of as catcher Ramon Hernandez had a knee injury. On July 21, 2009, Tatum was able to make his Major League debut against Los Angeles Dodgers and went 2 for 2 and was the final player to retire from the game. In July, Hanigan got scratched prior to his planned start due to stiff neck, which meant Tatum to make his very first Major League start against the Chicago Cubs. On July 28, against the San Diego Padres, Tatum hit the first Major League hit and first career RBI by hitting a single which was scored by Laynce Nix. On the 29th of August in 2009. Tatum made his debut home hit with a line drive off the knuckleballer Charlie Haeger.
On March 28, 2012, Tatum was claimed off waivers by the New York Yankees.
