Cory Nathanial Gearrin (born April 14 in 1986) is an American professional baseball pitcher who plays for the Minnesota Twins organization. The Minnesota Twins have played Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Atlanta Braves, San Francisco Giants, Texas Rangers, Oakland Athletics, Seattle Mariners and New York Yankees.
After being summoned by the Braves from Gwinnett yet time on the 24th of April, 2012 the day that Jair Jurrjens was recalled, Gearrin was sent back down five days later, when Tim Hudson was activated from the DL after not appearing on the field with the Braves.
During the 2013 season, Gearrin became a key part of the Braves bullpen due to many injuries to regular relief pitchers. Despite a good start to the season (a 1.46 ERA in April and a 2.13 ERA in May), Gearrin’s ERA increased significantly in June (10.80 in six appearances). After allowing two earned runs during a relief appearance on July 3, Gearrin was optioned to Gwinnett for the first time in 2013 on July 5. In 2014, Gearrin attended Spring Training with the Braves. He was likely to earn one of the open roster spots in the bullpen, but Gearrin left his last outing with discomfort in his right elbow. It was later revealed that Gearrin would need Tommy John Surgery and miss the 2014 season. He was released by the Braves on November 10, 2014.
Gearrin and the Giants avoided salary arbitration on December 3, 2016, by agreeing to a one-year, $1.05 million contract for the 2017 season.
In April of 2011 Gearrin was named for Atlanta’s Major League team, which was AAA Gwinnett, a move which Atlanta’s General Manager Frank Wren, described as an “necessity.” In the ninth inning of a game that was tied in a game against San Diego on April 25 2011 Gearrin made his debut in the major leagues by retiring the team in order and registering an out. After returning to the mound in his final pitch of the 10th, Gearrin again retired the Padres in order and recorded another strikeout. On May 1st, 2011, Gearrin recorded his first blow-by-saving after surrendering the tying score in the seventh inning to the St. Louis Cardinals, which in which the Braves then came back to beat. While with Atlanta in 2011 he posted 1-1 record, with an ERA of 7.85 in 18 games , with zero saves over 18.1 innings as he gave 17 hits with 16 earned runs as well as zero home runs.

Prior to making the professional team, Gearrin attended Rhea County High School, Young Harris College and Mercer University. The year 2006 was the first time he was a player in college summer baseball for the Cotuit Kettleers of the Cape Cod Baseball League. Cory Gearrin was listed as one of the top 30 prospects within the Cape Cod League in 2006. The summer before, he had an impressive 1.67 ERA, striking out 41 batters in just 27 innings, while going 2-1 while recording eight saves. He made his debut in the professional game in 2007 going 1-0 with an 4.44 ERA in 18 relief appearances that saw him strike out 37 batters over 26/3 innings pitched for the Danville Braves. The following year He went 6-3 and an 4.11 ERA in 36 relief appearances for the Rome Braves and Myrtle Beach Pelicans with 72 batters in the 46 innings pitched. For 2009, Gearrin pitched for both the Pelicans as well as the Mississippi Braves, going a combined 1-4, with a 2.30 ERA and a 19-game save. Gearrin pitched with the Gwinnett Braves in 2010, being 3-5 and the 3.36 ERA in 52 relief appearances.
Gearrin signed a minor league deal to join the San Francisco Giants in December 2014. He was called up to the Giants in September 2015 and appeared in seven games, pitching 3⁄3 innings. In 2016, Gearrin was named to the opening day Major League roster for the Giants. In 56 games, he was 3-2 with a 4.28 ERA in 48 ⁄3 innings. He also had 3 saves.
