Corina Ungureanu is one of the most popular and richest Artistic Gymnast who was born on August 29, 1980 in Ploiești, Prahova, Romania. Corina Georgiana Ungureanu (born August 29. 1981 from Ploiesti) is an elite Romanian gymnast of the arts who competed in international competitions between 1993 until 1999. She was part of two gold-medal winning World Championships teams and was the 1998 European Champion on the floor exercise.

Since 2004, Ungureanu’s official biographical work, Corina Ungureanu: Beginning and End composed by Laurian Stanchescu, was published. Ungureanu is currently a spokesperson in the name of Bucovina SA, a bottled water company located in Romania. She runs a cafe called New Haven in Ploiesti with her boyfriend. In early 2007 , she was offered a coaching job in England together with former colleague Claudia Presacan.

The DVDs were a source of controversy as certain scenes and publicity materials featured gymnasts wearing official Romanian team uniforms. Then it was discovered that they weren’t aware of the obligation under their contract to wear official team leotards before filming started [1]. Following this controversy Ungureanu as well as her teammates from the past were barred from competing or coaching in Romania between 2002 and 2007. In exchange, Ungureanu spent some time coaching in Italy.

Ungureanu started gymnastics in the petrolul Ploiesti Club in her home town Ploiesti however, she her main focus was her career with the club in Bucharest in the tutelage of Leana Sima. At the national training center in Deva the country, she was trained by Octavian Belu. The first assignment she had on international stage consisted of a junior double event that took place between Romania and Germany where she was placed first with her team , and eighth overall. Ungureanu returned to the international stage in 1996 when she took home an all-around championship during the EcoAir Cup. She was not a part of the 1996 Olympics however she was part of the gold medal winning Romanian teams in 1998 in addition to the 1999 World Gymnastics Championships. She had to step down in 1999 because of an injury to her spinal cord.

After she retired from gymnastics she was the subject of controversy after taking a naked photo in the January 2000 issue of Playboy Romania. The images were then reprinted by Playboy Japan at the end of May in 2000, which resulted in her releasing an un-nude photobook, Corina Ungureanu’s Photo Collection (korinaungureanu Xie Zhen Ji ) ISBN 47976-7021-5. It was released in Japan in the following year. In 2002, together with her former teammates Lavinia Milosovici and Claudia Presacan, Ungureanu appeared in two Japanese DVDs, Gold Bird and Euro Angels with footage of three gymnasts performing gymnastics routines without tops. A second photobook with no nude images, LCC Gold ISBN 4-87279-118-5 was released at the same in 2002. Some of the photographs from the DVD and photobook were later released by the Japanese magazine Shukan Gendai. A revised edition of the DVDs titled 3 Gold Girls was released in Germany in 2004.
