Conrad McRae is one of the most popular and richest American basketball player who was born on January 11, 1971 in New York, United States. Conrad Bastien McRae (January 11 1971 – July 10 2001) was an American professional basketball player with an impressive career in Europe playing for teams from France, Italy, Greece and Turkey. He was also picked for The Washington Bullets, in the second round (38th selection in the overall draft) in the 1993 NBA draft.
As of 1999, McRae was signed to a contract for 10 days to the Denver Nuggets, but it was terminated when an incident in which he fainted prior to the start of a game.
McRae was able to Europe and eventually played for various European clubs from Turkey, France, Italy and Greece. McRae helped Efes from Istanbul to take home the FIBA Korac Cup of 1995-96 and was also a part of the finals of the Italian League’s championship in the 1996-97 season together with Fortitudo Bologna. While in Europe McRae scored the wrong basket after a rough night’s rest within the Parisian hotel room because of what was called “water problems.” While McRae did not play in the NBA however, he played at home as a player for Fort Wayne Fury of the CBA in 1994. In eight games with the Fury, McRae averaged 8.6 points and 7.5 points per game.

McRae was a student at Brooklyn Technical High School, where he was an outstanding basketball player. He was nicknamed “McNasty”, while playing in the Entertainers Basketball Classic in Harlem’s Rucker Park. At his senior year, McRae was named PSAL High School All-City in 1986 and 89. He was selected for be on the 1988 McDonald’s All-American Team, and was a participant at The Junior Olympics.
McRae accepted a scholarship offer to Syracuse University, where he was to play basketball in college under the head trainer Jim Boeheim, with the Syracuse Orange. While he didn’t receive a significant amount in the court, hard work and athleticism as well as his defense skills made him the second- round NBA draft choice in 1993 with the Washington Bullets. While studying at Syracuse, McRae became a member of the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity (Theta Theta Xi Chapter).
In the summer of 2000, McRae collapsed and died while running wind sprints during an Orlando Magic summer league practice at the University of California, Irvine.. An autopsy failed to determine the cause of death, but McRae had a history of arrythmia.
