Collis Birmingham (born 27 December 1984) is an Australian middle and long-distance athlete. He has been a two-time competitor in the Summer Olympics (2008 and 2012) and has also competed four times in the World Championships in Athletics (2009 2013, 2011, and 2015). He has participated in five different editions of the IAAF World Cross Country Championships. In 2009, he was the Australian and Oceanian 10,000-meter record holder in 2009 until the year 2011.

He set three personal bests on the track during the year, registering 1:49.36 seconds for 800m, 7:35.45 minutes for the 3000 m, and 13:09.57 seconds for the 5000m. His best 5000-meter time was in a finish runner-up race during the London Grand Prix, although his performance was abysmal in the heats for the event in the 2012 London Olympics one month later. He recorded his fourth personal record of the year in the Great North Run, reaching seventh place in the time of 61:25 mins. Birmingham was able to improve this even further to 60:56 minutes during the Kagawa Marugame Half Marathon, which was won by a gap of 20 seconds.
In August 2013, Birmingham attended the London Marathon Young Athletes Training Camp at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham as a special guest and was interviewed by 80–90 potential future running stars. Other special guests who attended the camp were Andrew Osagie, Ross Murray and Mick Woods.
In 2010 Birmingham completed a 1500 m top time of 3:35.50 minutes as well as a 3000-metre top of 7:38.77 minutes, and the 5000-metre best was 13:10.97 minutes. Birmingham was 83rd at the 2010 IAAF World Cross Country Championships and was picked to represent Oceania in the 5000-meter race during the 2010 IAAF Continental Cup, where he placed sixth. He competed in both the 10,000 and 5000 meters during the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, coming in sixth and ninth respectively. He was a representative of Australia during the 2012 World Championships in Athletics, however, he was not able to advance beyond the 5000m heats.

In Carlton, Victoria, Birmingham made his international debut in 2003 at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships and finished 84th overall for the Junior race. The first international senior race took place just four years later in the 2007 Championships. In 2007, he took home his first national championship in his first attempt in the 10,000m distance, winning the Zatopek 10K race ahead of Martin Dent. In 2008, at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships the runner-up was 73rd. was a participant in 2008’s Olympic Games in the 5000 meters event, but was unable to be able to compete in the final. He placed third in the Great Yorkshire Run 10K and made his half- marathon debut on the Great North Run, running in 65:46 minutes.
In 2009, Birmingham beat his Oceanian record for 10,000 m in a time in 27:29.73 minutes. This was in Berkeley, California. Birmingham won the Australian title for the 5000 meters in March. He then finished 29th in the 2009 IAAF World Cross Country Championships which was his highest ever finish at the event. He finished 4th on the Emsley Carr Mile and was chosen for both the 5000 m and 10,000 meters races in the 2010 World Championships in Athletics. He was not able to finish the race, and was 16th in the 5000m final. At the end of the year, he took home his second 10K race in Zatopek Classic. Zatopek Classic and also placed second in the Great Australian Run, winning the Australian 15K road race title.
Birmingham is currently running 100 miles to 120 miles every week. He currently lives in Australia but comes to England for 6 weeks in the summer to train; often at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham in London. Also, he trains at Bushy Park – the second largest of the Royal Parks of London, at 445 hectares (1,100 acres) in area.
