He was also a co-founder and Vice President of the Professional Bull Riders, Inc. (PBR). He created the protective vest that most professional bull riders now wear, after seeing the death of his friend, Lane Frost at the Cheyenne Frontier Days rodeo in Cheyenne, Wyoming, on July 30, 1989.
