As a group of performers, Fovea Hex usually consists of Clodagh Simonds, Laura Sheeran, Cora Venus Lunny, Michael Begg and Colin Potter, with either Julia Kent, Kate Ellis or John Contreras on cello. On May 7, 2007, Fovea Hex was performing at the request from David Lynch at the Fondation Cartier in Paris to be part of the The Air Is on Fire retrospective show. Also performing at venues in Austria, Spain and Italy in 2007 and in 2008, Fovea Hex made their debut Irish show during The Electric Picnic festival in Stradbally, Co. Laois, in August of 2008.

The music industry was a bad effect on her goals in the field as she was forced to resume her piano studies, which she had abandoned and began to study music from different world cultures. When she was in 1992 Simonds moved away from London and moved to West Cork to focus on making music. In 1996 she released her debut album Six Elementary Songs was produced by Tom Newman and released on the Japanese-based label Evangel Records. The same year, the album Virgin Prophet –which was mostly composed of recordings made for Deram by a pre-drums lineup of Mellow Candle was issued through the UK Label Kissing Spell. The album also contained two earlier solo demos, composed and produced by Simonds aged 16 years old.

At the age 11 She formed her first group, Mellow Candle, with two classmates, Alison Bools (later Williams O’Donnell, later Williams) along with Maria White. They released their debut single “Feelin’ High” on SNB Records in 1968, when she was just 15 years old. A few years after, with a larger lineup, Mellow Candle released their sole album Swaddling Songs The album did not have much or no impact beyond Ireland until about 25 years afterward. The group broke up in 1973. From 1972 until 1975 she was a guest on the second album of Thin Lizzy, Shades of a Blue Orphanage and Two Mike Oldfield albums: Hergest Ridge and Ommadawn which helped Oldfield to come up with the name of Ommadawn, the latter album. She is also in Oldfield’s Amarok album, which was his album that was his spiritual follow-up to Ommadawn. Between 1976 and 1986, she resided within New York where she worked in a group alongside Carter Burwell and Stephen Bray and also wrote music for two plays in the La MaMa ETC, and sometimes working with Virgin Records.

About 25 years after the release date of Mellow Candle, around 25 years after the release of Mellow Candle album, interest in the band re-emerged and re- emerged in Japan and the album has been re-released multiple times, gaining the status of a cult. One of Simonds tracks, “Silversong”, was recorded by All About Eve in 1988 as well as another song, “Poet and the Witch” was recorded by Stephen Malkmus in 1998. She also performed a cover of the Syd Barrett/James Joyce track “Golden Hair” for Russell Mills album Pearl & Umbra. In 2005-2007 with the trade name Fovea Hex She released three EPs named”Neither Talk Nor Remain Silent. They featured Michael Begg, Carter Burwell, John Contreras, Roger Doyle, Brian Eno, Roger Eno, Robert Fripp, Percy Jones, Cora Venus Lunny, Donal Lunny, Andrew M. McKenzie of The Hafler Trio, Sarah McQuaid, Hugh O’Neill, Colin Potter of Nurse with Wound, Geoff Sample, Lydia Sasse, Laura Sheeran, and Steven Wilson. Each EP was released as a special edition that included an additional disc which contained a thorough reworking of the material from that EP from The Hafler Trio.
