Claus Thomsen is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on May 31, 1970 in Aarhus, Central Denmark Region, Denmark. Claus Thomsen (born 31 May 1970 in Aarhus) is an Aarhus- based Danish professional footballer from the past. He was the winner of the Danish Cup with AGF Aarhus and also played in England for top-level clubs Ipswich Town and Everton, and Wolfsburg within Germany. He played in 20 games in the Danish national team and was a part of Denmark in the 1992 Summer Olympics and the 1996 European Championship.
In the case of Everton, Thomsen notably scored an own goal in the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on 16 April 1997. The result was that Everton were limited to a draw of 1-1 by Liverpool however they managed to achieve Premier League survival in 15th position. Thomsen scored one goal in the final third for Everton which was their only goal in the 2-1 defeat in the match against Derby County.
After little more than a year at Everton, marred by poor performances, he moved back to Denmark for £500,000 in March 1998, to play for Akademisk Boldklub (AB). He stayed at AB for six months, before moving abroad once again.
Then, in the summer of 1994, he made the move overseas and joined English team Ipswich Town, in a transfer worth PS250,000. He was invited to make his Danish debut for the national team by the national head coach Richard Moller Nielsen, in April 1995. Thomsen was also invited for selection to the Danish national team during this year’s European Championship, and played in all three games prior to being eliminated. He played a total of 97 appearances, scoring 8 goals for Ipswich and was considered to be one of the strongest players on the team with the lowest strength during Ipswich town’s history. In his debut season, Ipswich were relegated to Ipswich in 1994/95. He was a major player in the team who missed out in playing in the First Division play-offs in 1995-96 However, when Ipswich wanted to strengthen their squad and improve their performance, he was traded to Everton at a cost of PS900,000. in January of 1997.

The boy was raised at Aarhus, Thomsen started his career with the local top- flight team AGF Aarhus, where he began his career as midfielder. Thomsen began his career with the Danish under-21 national team in the month of May 1989 in the national under-21 team, when head coach Richard Moller Nielsen used the 6’3″ Thomsen as a central defensive player. Thomsen was named under-21 captain of the national team in 1990. In December of 1990, Thomsen signed a new contract with AGF and he resisted an offer from Brondby IF and B1903.
Then, in November of 1991 Thomsen had been a target for Celtic FC manager Liam Brady The deal was not able to go because of “too many intermediaries” according to Claus Thomsen himself. He was injured during an under-21 game in the national team in the game against Poland on March 1992 however he recovered enough to assist AGF take home the 1992 Danish Cup. He was also captain of Denmark during the 1992 Summer Olympics during which the team played in three games for Denmark and scored one goal against Mexico. In the autumn of the year 1992, however, he was unable to retain his position in central defense of the AGF’s initial line-up, and played in a range of positions. He was on trial with Werder Bremen in December 1992 however, he was not accepted to a contract by Werder Manager Otto Rehhagel.
Thomsen joined German club VfL Wolfsburg in September 1998. In April 1999, he ended his Danish national team career, citing a lacking energy surplus. Struggling with injuries, he remained at Wolfsburg for four years, but saw little playing time during this period, retiring in April 2002.
