On the 8th of September, he received the episcopal ordination at the Cathedral in Santa Maria del Fiore, by Cardinal Silvano Piovanelli and the Archbishop Ennio Antonelli (later Cardinal) and Bishop Gualtiero Bassetti (later archbishop and cardinal). When he received his appointment to the episcopate, he was considered the youngest bishop in Italy.
On 12 July 2014 Pope Francis appointed him bishop of Castellaneta. He began his episcopal ministry in the Apulian church on 14 September 2014.
On 21 May 2015 the Italian Episcopal Conference, convened at the General Assembly, elected him President of the Episcopal Commission for the Liturgy. On 3 October he was also appointed, by the Permanent Bishop’s Council of the CEI, president of the Liturgical Action Center.
In 1994, he was a pro-vicar in the archdiocese of metropolitan and administrator of the archbishop’s curia , and honorary canon for the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. In 2001, he was named Vicar General to Florence’s Archdiocese of Florence.

Claudio Maniago (born 8 February 1959, Florence) is an Italian, Roman Catholic bishop. (bishop of Castellaneta and Satafi).
On the 19th of April 1984, the priest was ordained in the presence of archbishop Silvano Piovanelli (letter Cardinal). From 1987 until 1994, he was the rector of the Minor Seminary as well as the coordinator of the diocesan centre of vocations and an active member of the pastoral diocesan council as well as an ecclesiastical assistant to the Serra Club. In 1988, he was appointed archbishop of Florence. In 1991, he served as head of diocesan’s liturgical office as well as a part of the ordained commission.
In 2008, the new archbishop of Florence Giuseppe Betori confirmed him as the Vicar General of the Archdiocese.
