in 2012 Van Wel won the second season of the show New Zealand’s Got Talent, performing original songs, including her finale song “Where Do You Find Love?” Van Wel first appeared in the fourth semi-finals, which aired on the 4th of November, when she sang her own song “Between The Lines”. She was voted the winner by the audience which earned her a place at the final. The final was held on the 25th of November, she sang an original song “Where Do You Find Love?”. On the show’s results, van Wel was first announced as one of the top three contestants before being declared winning the contest. She was awarded a $100,000 cash prize, as well as the 2013. Toyota Corolla car.

In August 2014, van Wel featured with other New Zealand artists on the charity single “Song for Everyone”.

After Van Wel’s win at New Zealand’s Got Talent win, van Wel was signed by Sony Music New Zealand. The single “Where Do You Find Love?” It was made available digitally December 7, 2012, as well as van Wel’s other two original songs recorded for the New Zealand’s Got Talent – “Between The Lines” and “Lines You Traced”. The single debuted on CD on December 12th and debuted at

Van Wel was born in England and relocated into New Zealand aged seven. She began making her own music after she received an instrument when she was 10 and would often perform in the local Marlborough Farmers Market. Van Wel enjoyed success in local Marlborough talent shows. At the age of 12 years old, van Wel won Marlborough Got Talent by composing her own track “Crocodile Tears”, and in 2011 van Wel won Marlborough Stars in Your Eyes with Marlborough Stars in Your Eyes, in which she sang as Rickie Lee Jones.

Both in 2011 and in 2012, van Wel won the Marlborough regional final of the Smokefreerockquest school musical competition. In 2011, at the age of 13 she sang her own song “Closer” and “Living a Life” as well as in 2012, she performed her original music “For A Moment” and “What Else Is There?” Despite regional success, van Wel was not selected for the 2012 or 2011 national finals.

In January 2013, van Wel began recording songs for her debut album, and in March she released second single “Beautiful”. She was also added to the line- up of the Classic Hits Winery Tour, touring New Zealand in February and March along with Fat Freddy’s Drop and The Adults. In September she released third single “Wait For Me” on iTunes, co-written with Don McGlashan, with whom she also worked on other new recordings. Her debut, self-titled album was released on 25 October 2013. It is co-produced by Don McGlashan and Joel Little.
