Cynthia Lee Nelson (born August 19th 1955) is a former World Cup alpine ski racer from the United States.
In her first World Cup season, she was a top-15 finisher in downhill racing as she approached the 1972 Winter Olympics neared. It was anticipated that she would be on her place on the U.S. Olympic team, however, she dislocated her hip during the downhill in Grindelwald on the 18th of January two weeks prior to when the games started. She was unable to participate in the Winter Olympics but competed in the years 1976, 1980, and 1984. After a hip injury, she took her very first World Cup race back at Grindelwald in 1974. It was the first American to earn the World Cup victory in downhill. Nelson’s sole victory in the World Cup giant slalom was also her sole win at the level of North America, in the rain in Whistler, British Columbia. She was eliminated from international competition following the 1985 season, with the following: six World Cup wins, 26 podiums and 123 top ten results.
