With Coleman facing a difficult battle to get a place in the first team of Cork City with midfield options of Gearoid Morrissey Greg Bolger, Garry Buckley, Conor McCormack and Jimmy Keohane, Coleman opted to join Cobh Ramblers in the League of Ireland First Division in March 2017. Coleman’s first goal in his senior career was scored on March 18, 2017 when Cobh Ramblers won 5-1 against Athlone Town at St Colman’s Park. The first year he played soccer in the hands of Stephen Henderson saw Coleman rack up at least 27 games across all competitions with 4 goals scored.
On 7 November 2019, it was announced that Coleman had returned to his hometown club Cork City ahead of the 2020 season.
Coleman was able to make the move to the League of Ireland Premier Division after signing for Limerick on the 7th of November, 2017. When he signed for Limerick, Coleman stated that manager Neil McDonald played a huge factor in the decision to sign with the club. The season proved to be a complete disaster for the club however since McDonald left in January, before the start of the season, being replaced with Tommy Barrett. The club was plagued by financial issues that resulted in players leaving the club in the transfer window in summer, and eventually, the club was club in a relegation battle throughout the entire season. Coleman however was impressed by his performance throughout the entire season. He made 35 appearances and two goals across all competitions during his debut campaign in the Premier Division level which included playing in both of the Promotion/Relegation Playoffs, which saw Limerick defeat to the tune of Finn Harps, resulting in being relegated for the blues.

Coleman was signed by Cork City in 2013 aged 16, having completed a trials for Aston Villa. He played for the club’s under 19 team for four years alongside other players such as Chiedozie Ogbene Aaron Drinan and Conor McCarthy and many other players. The first season he played in was one in which Cork take the league title and it was the third time in consecutive years for the team. In 2015, they defended their title by winning against Limerick in Limerick’s Markets Field. Coleman made his debut in the senior squad at 18, on August 31, 2015, when he made an appearance as an alternative in place of Kevin O’Connor in a 3-1 victory against St Patrick’s Athletic at Turners Cross. In 2016, Coleman make two appearances with the first team, playing in matches in which he played Wexford as well as Bray Wanderers. Coleman was captain of the under 19 team to win the Enda McGuill Cup, beating St Patrick’s Athletic in the final and qualifying for UEFA Youth League in the process. Coleman excelled during his debut in the UEFA Youth League, as the team won an aggregate win of 1-0 against HJK Helsinki in Finland after which they lost 3-1 in the home game and at 1-0 in the away game against Italian huges AS Roma.
On 27 November 2018, Coleman signed for Dublin club St Patrick’s Athletic for the 2019 season. He made his debut on the opening night of the season on 15 February 2019 in a 1–0 win over his former side Cork City at Richmond Park. Coleman had to wait until 31 May for his first start in the league, also against Cork City, in which he set up Simon Madden’s 95th minute equaliser in a 1–1 draw. This performance helped Coleman claim his place in Harry Kenny’s starting 11 over the next number of games, just before Pats’ UEFA Europe League campaign. Coleman got his first taste of European football at senior level as he played both legs of the tie as Pats were knocked out of the UEFA Europa League at the first hurdle by IFK Norrköping of Sweden, losing 2–0 at home and 2–1 away. He was released at the end of the season after making 26 appearances in all competitions, failing to score a goal in his time with the club.
