Christos Staikouras is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on August 12, 1973 in Lamia, Central Greece, Greece. Staikouras is born in Lamia, Phthiotis, in 1973. In 1991 he completed his studies at the 39th General Lyceum of Kypseli and from 1991 until 1996 pursued the Master of Science (BSc) degree in mechanical engineering at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). While at NTUA He was a member of the student senatorial council, and was president of the Student Association for mechanical engineering students. From 1996 until 1997, he graduated with an Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Imperial College London. From November 1997 until May 2001, he earned an PhD studying banking and finance from City University London, with the thesis “European banking industry: Sources of income and profitability.” In his postgraduate studies, he was the winner of a scholarship offered by The Eugenides Foundation, based in Athens.

In February 2004, he was appointed to take on the position of Assistant Professor in Economic Sciences in The University of Thessaly, continuing until September 2004 when he joined the ranks of the faculty at the Hellenic Open University. On July 6, 2006 Staikouras became an assistant professor of Finance at the Athens University of Economics and Business which was a finalization of his work with the Hellenic Open University in August 2007. He was released in the month of September 2007 and was on a leave of absence for a while following the election of a member of the Hellenic Parliament.

He was first elected as a New Democracy MP for Phthiotis at the 2007 election. He has been re-elected in all elections since, and in June 2012 was appointed as an Alternate Minister for Finance, serving until January 2015.

Staikouras was re-elected in both the May and June 2012 elections, and following the June election was appointed as an Alternate Minister for Finance in the Cabinet of Antonis Samaras. In this capacity, he oversaw the national accounts between 2012 and 2014 during Greece’s second bailout. In October 2014, Staikouras presented the draft budget before the Hellenic Parliament, predicting a 2.4% rise in growth in 2015. He said: “The conditions for sustained long-term growth are in the process of being created,” although doubt was cast on his predictions as they may have been “too optimistic.” He served as Alternate Minister for Finance until the January 2015 legislative election, which resulted in a loss for New Democracy.

Staikouras was born in Lamia, Phthiotis, and was a mechanical engineer in the National Technical University of Athens. He later completed his MBA from Imperial College London and a PhD in banking at City University London. He was an analyst at the Bank of England and then Eurobank Ergasias before becoming a lecturer at the Athens University of Economics and Business in 2002. He continued in the same role as he took on additional responsibility, including working at Thessaloniki University, The University of Thessaly and the Hellenic Open University. He was promoted to Professor in 2006. was appointed as an assistant professor of Finance within Athens University of Economics and Business. Athens University of Economics and Business and was then put on leave in the year 2007.

Christos Staikouras (pronounced [,xristos stai’kurasborn 12 August 1973) is a Greek politician and economist. He is currently New Democracy’s Co-ordinator in Economic Affairs. Since the election in 2007 in which he was an elected member of the Hellenic Parliament (MP) for Phthiotis. Following the elections of 2019 the MP was appointed Minister of Finance in the cabinet that was headed by Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

From September 1999 until November 1999, the researcher was employed as a guest lecturer at City University London. Then, he worked in the capacity of a Scientist Associate with the Bank of England from January until June 2000, before moving to Greece and becoming an analyst in the area of Strategy at Eurobank Ergasias from August 2000 until June 2002. Since Feb 2002 Staikouras was also employed as an instructor of finance for the Athens University of Economics and Business and continued in this job for a few years while other assignments were carried out in the background. From July 2002 until the beginning of January 2004 he was back into Eurobank Ergasias, working as an advisor on the Board of Directors.

In the 2007 legislative election, Staikouras was first elected as a New Democracy Member of the Hellenic Parliament (MP) representing Phthiotis. Upon his election, he was appointed as a member of the Standing Committee on Economic Affairs and became a member of both the Central Committee and Political Committee of New Democracy. Following his re-election in 2009, he was also appointed as a member of the Special Standing Committee on the Financial Statement and General Balance Sheet of the State.
