Born in Athens and matriculated at his first class at the Hellenic Army Academy in 1976 and graduated in the year 1980 as an 2nd Lieutenant in the Infantry. He subsequently worked with the Hellenic Army’s special forces, which included as a company commander at the Special Forces Training Centre (1981-82) as well as in the 2nd Paratrooper Squadron (1982-86) which was followed by a period as an instructor at the NATO International Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol School in Germany (1986-88). After his return, he worked as an instructor in Greece’s Unconventional Warfare Training Centre (1988-91) and as head of the elite Special Paratrooper Unit (ETA) (1991-93) and also of the 5th Special National Guard Battalion (1993-95). He was also a graduate of the Hellenic Navy’s special warfare elite Underwater Demolition Unit (MYK).

General Christos Manolas (Greek: Khristos Manolas ; born on 19 February 1959) is a Greek retired Hellenic Army officer and the former Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff (24 February 2014 to 25 February , 2015).

On the 19th of February, 2014 on 19 February 2014, the Government Council for Foreign Affairs and Defence (KYSEA) was able to approve his appointment as the Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff, succeeding Athanasios Tselios. There was a ceremony for the transfer to be held on February 24, 2014. On February 25, 2015, the KYSEA approved his resignation and elevated him to his rank of Full General after his retirement, and granting him the title of an Honorary Chief of Army General Staff, and his replacement was Lieutenant. Then he was the head of the 79th National Guard Higher Command (2009-10) as well as in the National Guard’s NCO Academy (2010-11), and of the 95th National Guard Higher Command (2011-12) as Greece’s military representative within NATO and the EU (2012-13), as Greece’s national military representative in EU in the EU and NATO (2012-13) as well as commander of the First Army (2013-14).
