Christopher Julien Leslie (born 15 December 1956 in Banbury, Oxfordshire, England) is an English British folk musician from England. He is Buddhist as well as a vegetarian and a teetotaler.

From 1981 to 1983 Chris Leslie studied violin making under the supervision from creator Patrick Jowett, at the Newark School of Violin Making in Nottinghamshire, England. Chris Leslie is currently playing the second instrument he designed in Newark in a stage.

Since then, he has been working with Whippersnapper as well as the Albion Band, All About Eve, Simon Mayor and Ian Anderson (of Jethro Tull). In 1981, he contributed to a cassette tape made by CND. The tape was dubbed “Demo Tape” and had only a limited distribution. The tape also contained songs from Fairport Convention. In 1983, he was a contributor his voice to “More Demo Tapes”, another cassette released by CND. He was a part of Steve Ashley on the song “Down By the Embankment” on the album “All Through The Year” (1991). The album was a compilation songs that were not originally recorded. He was featured in “People on the Highway” (Bert Jansch tribute album (2000). Other appearances were also made for Chris on Steve Ashley albums (see discography). in 2003 Chris performed violin in various tracks from the album Mostly Autumn Passengers. In the last quarter of 2007, Chris recorded the mandolin and violin tracks in Dan Crisp’s first album , ‘Far From Here’.

Leslie was born living in Banbury, Oxfordshire. His brother John encouraged him towards The Watersons’ Frost and Fire, Dave Swarbrick, and The Corries. In 1969, he started to learn how to play the fiddle. He began to model himself after the fiddle-playing that of Dave Swarbrick of Fairport Convention, Peter Knight of Steeleye Span along with Barry Dransfield.

Leslie recorded his first album at the age of 16 in a Banbury-based folk group. Then, he began to build a career that was successful in folk clubs along with his brother John who recorded their first record “The Ship of Time” in the year 1976. In the time Leslie was also the fiddle player of The Hookey Band and a part of the morris dancers of Adderbury. Around this time when he first caught the notice from Fairport’s Dave Pegg.

In 1997 he joined Fairport Convention as singer, songwriter and multi- instrumentalist. He has recorded five solo albums – The Flow, The Gift, Dancing Days, Origins and Turquoise Tales. At first sight Dancing Days appears to be a Fairport Convention album, as it features Simon Nicol, Dave Pegg, Ashley Hutchings and Ric Sanders. However, each of these artists appears only in a sequence of duos with Leslie. He has also recorded collaborations with Ashley Hutchings including Grandson of Morris On .
