Choo Mi-ae is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on October 23, 1958 in Dasa-eup, Daegu, South Korea. Choo Mi-ae (Korean cumiae ; Hanja: Qiu Mei Ai born 23rd October, 1958) is a South Korean politician currently serving as Minister of Justice and five-term legislator of the Democratic Party. Choo Mi-ae was the very first female to be elected to the post following Kang Kum Sil whom was appointed by former president Roh who was who was a political ally of moon Jae-in, the incumbent.
Prior to her involvement in politics, Choo served as a district judge over 12 years. Choo resigned her post to protest government pressure to impose judgments on protesters for democracy, and then became a member of in opposition to the National Congress for New Politics. She joined into the National Assembly in the 1996 elections as an elected participant in the National Congress. She broke down regional boundaries when she was elected as liberal, despite coming from the stronghold of conservatives in Daegu and was also one of only two female members in the National Assembly to have served as a judge. She was followed by Na Kyung-won, who was elected in 2004.
Having served in the assembly for seven years, Choo ran for chairman of the Millennium Democratic Party in 2003, coming in second place behind Chough Soon-hyung. She came into conflict with Chough in the succeeding months in the crisis over the impeachment of President Roh Moo-hyun, with Choo urging Chough to step down over the events. After originally rejecting the role, she was appointed head of the party’s election campaign committee less than three weeks before the 2004 parliamentary election. Her fight against regionalism in the party and her management of the party’s campaign for the 2004 election during the impeachment crisis earned her the nickname “Choo d’Arc”, comparing her to Joan of Arc. She lost her seat in the election.
