Chiu Yi-ying is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on June 1, 1971 in Pingtung, Taiwan. Chiu Yi-ying (Chinese: Qiu Yi Ying and pinyin: Qiu Yiying ; born 1 June 1971) is a Taiwanese politician. She was a member for four years within the Legislative Yuan, one term in the National Assembly, and from 2005 until 2008 she was deputy minister of the Hakka Affairs Council.

Chiu was a supporter of an amendment in 2003 to Taiwanese copyright law , which was controversial with the rapper Jeff Huang. Huang recorded a track titled “Retribution” about the amendment’s supporters. Two of them, Chiu and Chang Hsueh-shun filed a lawsuit against Chiu for libel. In May 2007, the Taipei District Court ruled in May 2007 that Huang was not found guilty of libel.

Chiu Yi-ying married Lee Yung-te in April 2011, whom she had met while serving on the Hakka Affairs Council. Later that year, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. To maintain her health, Chiu began jogging, juicing, and cut red meat from her diet. In January 2013, Chiu and Lee held their wedding banquet, which had been postponed due to the 2012 election cycle and Chiu’s cancer treatment.

An active part of the Democratic Progressive Party, Chiu was selected to be a member of the Central Standing Committee by 2000. Then, in 2016, Chiu was elected the chair of the committee.

Chiu’s great-grandfather Chiu Ching-Te, a politician in Chiu’s grandfather was a member of the Pingtung County Assembly and served two terms as Pingtung City mayor. Chiu’s mother’s father Chiu Mao-nan, also known as zh has been elected to the Pingtung County Council as well as was a candidate in 1977 for the post of mayor of Pingtung prior to withdrawing in the Kuomintang and ending the campaign. Another cousin, Chiu Lien-hui, was active in Pingtung County politics from 1959 until 1996. Chiu Yiying’s older brother Chiu Ming-chang is also an official.

Chiu was elected to her first national post in 1996. She served in the National Assembly until 2000. After her election, Chiu became the youngest assembly member in the age group of 25. In 2001 she got elected into in the Legislative Yuan as a representative of Pingtung County. Chiu was named deputy minister for the Hakka Affairs Council in June 2005. Chiu was added to DPP’s proportional representative party list for the 2008 elections and won, which forced her removal of the Hakka Affairs Council, where she was replaced by Peng Tien-fu. The year 2012 saw Chiu beat incumbent Kaohsiung 1, Chung Shao Ho and won her second term in the 2016 election.

Chiu has been involved in many altercations on the floor of the Legislative Yuan. In April 2009, Lee Ching-hua called Chiu a shrew, and in response, she hit him. In another instance, Chiu attempted to unplug a loudspeaker Kuomintang legislators were using to disrupt a review of the Cross-Strait Service Trade Agreement, while Chiang Kui-fang tried to stop her. While meeting as a member of the legislature’s economics committee in November 2016, Chiu was overheard saying there was “no use talking to these huan-a,” using a derogatory Hokkien word to refer to Kuomintang aboriginal representatives. She later apologized. In July 2017, Chiu attempted to break up a group of Kuomintang lawmakers who were protesting the Forward-looking Infrastructure Development Program. Hsu Shu-hua was the first to stop Chiu from interfering with the protest. Chiu later engaged Lee Yen-hsiu [zh] , Lin Te-fu [zh] , and Huang Chao-shun.
