Cheung Yin-tung is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on May 1, 1964 in Hong Kong. He was an New Territories indigenous resident born in Yuen Long in 1964. He was active in student activism as a young man and was the chairman of the standing 32nd committee for the Hong Kong Federation of Students (HKFS) and also led demonstrations to support those who participated in the Tiananmen Square protests in 1989, in Beijing.

The 2003 District Council election, he was elected to the Wang Yat constituency, taking the first seat of members of the Democrats within Tin Shui Wai. In 2004, in the Legislative Council election, he ran for the New Territories West with Albert Ho’s ticket. Ho was eventually elected to an office, however Cheung was not elected. Cheung ran for a second time in the

2008. Legislative Council election, leading the third team to the Democratic Party along with Albert Ho and Lee Wing-tat. His campaign was able to get 10,069 votes, but wasn’t elected.

On 23 January 2015 after the party leadership election, Cheung Yin-tung resigned as secretary and his position on the Central Committee with his disciple Kwong Chun-yu. Some speculated their disaffections towards the dominance of the Mainstreamer faction led by the “triumvirate”, Yeung Sum, Cheung Man-kwong and Lee Wing-tat.
