Cherie Ann Burton (born 13 November 1968) is an ex- Australian politician who served as an Labor Member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for Kogarah between 1999 and 2015.
Burton was Minister of Housing as well as the Minister assisting the Minister of Health (Mental Health) from August 2005 until March 2007. In a statement citing family reasons, Burton announced she had made the decision to quit the ministerial position after the NSW election. But questions were raised about the possibility that she had been forced to leave her ministry position because of a police investigation into an assault alleged against the nephew of Burton, the Liberal candidate in Burton’s electorate during the day of voting.
Burton revealed that she had met the husband of her, Andrew Murphy, after having consulted with TV psychic John Holland in early 2003.

Burton is a native of Paddington, New South Wales and was raised in Minto. Her graduation in 1986 from Narrabeen High School, in Narrabeen in 1986, and was an account clerk as well as an official of the National Union of Workers. Burton has served as the representative for the fairly safe Labor district of Kogarah since 1999, when she beat the Liberal candidate Sam Witheridge after being installed by the administrative head of the office committee. She was chosen as the Labor candidate following an N40 ruling, avoiding the local pre- selection process. When she was elected, which was at age 30 she was among the youngest Labor politicians on the back bench, a second in age to Matt Brown, aged 27.
Burton is a keen sailor, having sailed since her teens. She is a Patron of the Kogarah Bay Sailing Club. In October 2006 she opened a new pontoon for Sailability Kogarah Bay at Dover Park, Blakehurst.
