Charlie Swan is one of the most popular and richest Fictional Character who was born on January 20, 1968 in County Tipperary, Ireland. Charlie Swan (born 20 January 1968) was a former best National Hunt jockey in Ireland during the 1990s. He was a part of the legendary Istabraq who took home three Champion Hurdles. He was twice the top jockey during Cheltenham Festival. Cheltenham Festival and was champion National Hunt jockey in Ireland for nine years in a row. After his retirement as a jockey, He worked for a number of years as being a trainer, with his base in Modreeny close to Cloughjordan, County Tipperary.

He will always be linked to the legendary gelding Istabraq which he won 23 times over hurdles . This included 3 consecutive renewals in the Champion Hurdle (1998 to 2000) and 4 champion Irish Hurdles (1998-2001) as well as huge races wins on the tracks of Aintree, Leopardstown and Punchestown. He was the winner of his 1997 Royal and Sun Alliance Hurdle after being sent off with as a 6/5 favourite. Istabraq had a bad sweat before the race, and Charlie was a great rider to settle him near the bottom of a field that was large and then resisting the temptation to gain ground uphill, before winning by one length. In 1998, the race was easier, because Istabraq took home the Champion Hurdle going right away to the top of the hill, winning with a distance of 12 lengths. He proved his supremacy by winning in 2000 and 1999. He was the ante- post favorite to win the 2000 Champion Hurdle, but the Foot and Mouth outbreak caused the 2001 race to be cancelled. With just one disappointing run and a lot of rumours about Istabraq’s condition prior to Cheltenham but there was an inexplicably large amount of money for the legendary horse in 2002. However, Istabraq was not right and Charlie had to pick the horse up to the crowd. However, both the horse and rider received an awe-inspiring ovation from the crowd.

First and only son to Donald Swan, a former British Army Captain, and his wife Teresa, Charlie was named after an ancestor who was the surgeon to the British King ‘Bonnie Prince Charlie’. He rode his first winner as a fifteen-year-old, on his father’s Final Assault, in a two-year-old maiden at Naas in March 1983, and, after a successful spell as an apprentice, he later turned his attention to the National Hunt scene. He won his first Irish jockeys’ championship in 1989/90 and retained the title up to and including the 1997/98 season. He was only deposed as champion Irish rider after deciding to concentrate on his training career. Swan holds the Irish records for the most winners in a season (147 in 1995/96) and the most in a calendar year.
