Charles Spencer, 9th Earl Spencer is one of the most popular and richest Historian who was born on May 20, 1964 in London, United Kingdom. Charles Edward Maurice Spencer was born in London on the 20th of May, 1964. The Queen Elizabeth II, his Godmother. His parents were called Viscount and Viscountess Althorp as their paternal grandparents, Albert Spencer, 7th Earl Spencer, was still alive at the date of his birth. Spencer was raised with three older sisters: Sarah, Jane, and Diana. Charles his infant brother, John had been born four years earlier than Spencer, and passed away within hours of his birth. Charles along with Diana were close in their youth. His parents’ marriage was troubled and ended with divorce when he was just four years old. Spencer took on the title of Viscount Althorp after his father was made Earl Spencer in 1975. Spencer was educated at Eton as well as Magdalen College, Oxford, where he studied Modern History.

He was a member of the House of Lords from 29 March 1992 (the day that his father died and he took his peerage) before the House of Lords Act 1999 removed most peerages from hereditary on the 11th of November, 1999.

On 31 August 1997, his elder sister Diana died after a car crash in Paris and Spencer delivered the eulogy at her funeral service held at Westminster Abbey six days later. In his eulogy he rebuked both Britain’s royal family and the press for their treatment of his sister. Spencer has ruled out the conspiracy theories regarding his sister’s death, and called the alleged letter she wrote 10 months before her death in which she discussed her fears of a planned accident “just a bizarre coincidence rather than tied in with reality.”

On 15 December 2001, he married Caroline Freud (née Hutton; born 16 October 1966), former wife of Matthew Freud. They separated in 2007 and later divorced. They have two children:

On the 16th September of 1989 Spencer who was then known by the courtesy title Viscount Althorp was married to Victoria Lockwood (born 20 November 1965). The wedding took place in the Church of St Mary, Great Brington, and Darius Guppy was the groomsman. Two nieces, Emily McCorquodale as well as The Hon. Eleanor Fellowes, were bridesmaids. The two nephews of the bride, Prince Harry as well as The Hon. Alexander Fellowes (son of Lord and Lady Fellowes), were page boys. Spencer and Lockwood who had relocated from Cape Town, South Africa were divorced on 3 December 1997. Diana’s death happened as the divorce was taking place. Soon after the separation, Spencer relocated to United Kingdom. The Earl is a father to four children with Victoria Lockwood, three daughters and one son.
