Lollar was later appointed director for The Maryland Chapter of Americans for Prosperity, the director of PAC New Day Maryland, addressed Second Amendment and anti-tax rallies and was an delegates to in 2012’s Republican National Convention.

In the primary held on June 24, 2014, Lollar finished third out of the four candidates with 15.5% of the vote, behind Larry Hogan and David R. Craig, who received 43% and 29.1%, respectively, but ahead of Ron George, who received 12.4%.

Lollar who was an Tea Party Republican, subsequently relocated to Maryland and was chair of the Charles County Republican Central Committee. He was planning to run for governor of Maryland in the election of 2010 however, was blocked from running due to the state’s requirements that candidates must be legally registered for Maryland over a period of five years. Instead Lollar sought to win the Republican nomination to take on Democratic incumbent Steny Hoyer, who is the 5th district of Maryland’s Congress. Lollar took the victory in his Republican primary in the September 2010 election by 58% votes. The general election was a close one. Hoyer won reelection with 64.3 percent of the votes, while Lollar’s was 34.6 percent.
