Charles Allen Gramlich was born on October 14 on the 14th of October, 1958. He was raised on a farm close to the hills of the Ozark Mountains. Even though his brothers were older and an older sister the eldest of them to him was 6 years younger than him. The closest child to him was about six miles (10 kilometers) from him. So pets, cats and books kept him entertained throughout his childhood. When he was a kid was he stumbled upon one of the valleys in the mountains which was so terrifying to him that he couldn’t attempt to go in. The experience of his childhood was the basis in his book Cold in the Light.

Beginning in the year 2010, Gramlich began self-publishing some of his novellas and short stories length books as ebooks via Amazon along with Barnes & Noble.

Gramlich is the author of several novels and numerous short stories. Most of his work falls into the genres of science fiction, fantasy, or horror. His first novel in paperback form was Cold in the Light, a horror thriller with science fiction elements that drew comparisons with the early work of Dean Koontz. His next three novels, Swords of Talera, Wings Over Talera and Witch of Talera, are Sword & Planet works in the tradition of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ John Carter of Mars series. In 2012, Gramlich returned to those Sword & Planet roots with Under the Ember Star, a Wildside Double book, which includes The Battle for Eden, by Mark E. Burgess, on the opposite side.

The year 2009 was the first time Gramlich published a book of his nonfiction writings on writing, published under the name”Write With Fire. Borgo Press, an imprint of Wildside Press, is the editor. The author also published a textbook in the year 2000, titled Writing in Psychology: A Guidebook. The book is a co- authored by two Gramlich coworkers who were Dr. Y. Du Bois Irvin and Dr. Elliott Hammer. The book was also published in the name of The Borgo Press.
