The 2009. AFC Cup, Chan was sent off at the end of the quarterfinal’s first game against Neftchi Farg’ona, and then suspended by two consecutive games. In 2009, shortly after his relocation into South China and subsequent success with Hong Kong U-23, he became a household name within Hong Kong. His romantic life was an issue for the local media. On 10 July 2012, Chan announced that he had joined China League One club Guangdong Sunray Cave for a 12-month contract.
