Chan Kong Choy is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on May 17, 1955 in Betong, Sarawak, Malaysia. Chan Kong Choy was born in Bentong, Pahang on 17 May 1955 into the ethnic Malaysian Chinese family of Cantonese descent , with ancestry originating of Yunfu, Guangdong, China. He attended Kolej Tunku Abdul Rahman in 1975 to complete the Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM). He graduated with first-class with distinction with a degree in Chinese Study from University of Malaya in 1979. He then went on to earn an advanced Diploma in Education from the University of Malaya in 1980. Through his professional career, he’s been in a variety of post.
Chan was appointed MCA vice-president of the party in 1999. He later assumed the deputy finance minister’s job following the general elections of that year. Based on his previous experience in MCA’s government and leadership, Chan faithfully remained as the Deputy Minister and vice-president of the party. Chan was appointed by the MCA Central Committee appointed Chan as the new deputy president following his resignation from Datuk Lim Ah Lee from the post.
In 2011, Chan was charged with cheating former prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi over the PKFZ scandal. Due to his court charges, the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah suspended Chan’s Datukship pending the outcome of the court trial, which subsequently happened to be a positive outcome for Chan In 2014, the High Court acquitted Chan the three charges of cheating in the PKFZ scandal after the prosecution withdrew charges against him thus clearing his name of any wrongdoing.
In 2016, Chan donated his personal collection of literary works on ‘The Dream of The Red Chamber’, one of the four greatest classical novels in Chinese literature to University of Malaya. The collection has 6000 pieces of literary works and is touted as the largest private collection outside of mainland China.
Chan was a member of the Parliamentary constituency of Selayang, Selangor from 1995 until 2008. Chan was able to win the constituency for the parliamentary seat of Selayang in the General Elections of 1990, 1995 1999, and 2004 for Selayang in the Barisan Nasional or National Front coalition.

Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Chan Kong Choy (simplified Chinese: Chen Yan Cai ; traditional Chinese: Chen Guang Cai pinyin: Chen Guang Cai ; Jyutping: Chen1 Kung3 Chui1 born 17 May, 1955) is an adjunct professor at the University of Malaya and was a Malaysian politician as well as the former vice President of the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) which was a constituent party of the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition. He was the minister of Transport from July 1st, 2003 until 18 March 2008, and has never lost a general election during the course of his career in politics.
Chan has been a part of as a member of the MCA the national leader for the past 16 years. Chan has served as Minister in the past for five years, and thirteen years as a Deputy Minister within the federal government, in addition to four years as a Pahang State executive councillor. Chan has served for 9 years in the position of MCA Youth chairman, and the Federal and State Government portfolios continuously since 1986. At the general election in 1986, Chan was elected as Pahang state assemblyman for Tanah Rata and was appointed by the Pahang State Government as its executive councillor. He occupied that position until the year the year 1990. After winning the seat in parliament in Lipis, Pahang in the general election of 1990, Chan was elevated by the leadership of the party and was made a deputy minister in the Culture, Arts and Tourism Ministry. In the year 1990, Chan became the party’s National Youth chairman. Chan was elected for an additional term as National Youth chairman in the 1993 elections for the party.
Chan did not defend his parliamentary seat in the 12th general elections held on 18 March 2008 thus stepped down from his cabinet post as Transport Minister citing health reasons and to make way for young blood. He subsequently did not contest back the post of deputy president of MCA in the party election on 18 October 2008 too which was won by Chua Soi Lek.
