He is a co-author of the book in 2005 Blue Ocean Strategy.

Blue Ocean Strategy is a business-oriented book first published in 2005 by W. Chan Kim and Renee Mauborgne of The Blue Ocean Strategy Institute at INSEAD. The book outlines what they believe to be the most efficient organization strategy for creating profit and growth. Blue Ocean Strategy recommends that businesses should generate new demand in a market that is uncontested space, also known as an uncontested “Blue Ocean”, rather than competing head-to-head with suppliers in an industry already in existence.
