He also began working within the industry of telecom for two years. At 21 years old, Chan decided to quit the job and become an all-time athlete, and turned his attention to mountain biking in cross-country. Chan was trained by Jinkang Shen.

Chan was a participant at his 2012 London Olympics. Chan took part in the cross-country cycling race. Chan was able to finish in 38th position (out from 50 participants) with 1 hour 41 minutes and 559 secs.

Chan participated at during the Chinese National Games and won the silver medal for cross-country mountain biking. The performance made him a star and Chan was ablaze to the gold medal at the Cross-Country mountain biking race of the 16th Asian Games in 2010 finishing the race at 2 hours 11 mins and 33 seconds. He beat his main competitor Japanese cyclist Kohei Yamamoto. Chan’s achievements have been awe-inspiring to everyone in the Hong Kong cycling hierarchy, and he won an award from the Hong Kong Potential Sports Stars Awards for the year 2010. The year 2011 Chan was awarded gold at his participation in the China National Mountain Bike Championship He also received the Medal of Honour from the Hong Kong Government in 2011, for his exceptional performances in international cycling events.
