Chaka Fattah is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on November 21, 1956 in Philadelphia, United States. Fattah was an elected representative in his district in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 192nd district from 1983 until 1988. He was also State Senator representing the 7th district between 1988 and 1994.

In 1987, Fattah founded the Graduate Opportunity Initiative Conference, an annual three-day informational and scholarship conference which aims to significantly increase the enrollment of under-represented graduate students studying Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM fields). The conference was designed to encourage minority students’ interest in STEM graduate and professional schools.

In 1991, State Senator Fattah decided to run for Pennsylvania’s 2nd congressional district in the special election that was held after Democratic U.S. Congressman William Gray decided to resign. On November 5, 1991, City Councilman Lucien Edward Blackwell won the election with a plurality of 39% of the vote defeating Fattah (28%), John F. White (28%), and Nadine Smith-Bulford (5%).

After he was elected as a potential candidate for mayor, Fattah came under fire from the Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police for his constant requests to extend a trial for Mumia Abu-Jamal, who was found guilty of killing officers Daniel Faulkner in 1981; Fattah was also criticized for possible unethical spending on campaign events in accordance with new rules on campaign finance that were implemented in the City of Philadelphia. The Fattah campaign responded by insisting that it was following more lenient federal regulations when spending the money. However, the campaign ultimately, it returned a portion the contributions that were not used towards the committee’s exploratory after an agreement between the city’s Board of Ethics. Fattah ended up finishing fourth place in the Democratic primary, just behind the other Congressman Bob Brady but well behind former city council member Michael Nutter, who went to win the fall general election with a landslide.

Chaka Fattah (born Arthur Davenport; November 21 1956) is an American politician from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania who served as an Democratic representative in the U.S. House for Pennsylvania’s 2nd congressional district from 1995 until the year 2016. He was previously a member of the Pennsylvania Senate and in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

His parents split up at the age of a child and his mother later was married to a man who she was introduced to at a national gathering about black supremacy in the year 1968. After this conference his mother chose that he should change his surname to Chaka Fattah, in recognition of their African heritage.

Fattah grew up in Philadelphia, attending Overbrook High School and the Community College of Philadelphia. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. In 1984, Fattah completed the Program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. In May 1986, he received his master’s degree in Governmental Administration from the University of Pennsylvania’s Fels Institute of Government.
