He was just 0.05 seconds from winning the bronze medal, and 0.02 seconds from winning the silver. Perris also completed the 200m in a way that broke the Australian record set in 1985, with an average that was 22.97 seconds. The time also saw him beat the Oceania record for the region. Following this World Championships, Perris moved to Canberra to be coach by Iryna Dvoskina.
