The family was raised in McKinney Texas where he went to Texas A&M University where he received an undergraduate degree in Science of Mechanical Engineering in the year 2010. In college, he raced as part of his team Texas A&M Cycling Team and as an amateur member of Team Brain and Spine Cycling and Super Squadra. Following graduation, was a member of with the Rio Grande Cycling squad. He began racing professionally in 2011 after joining Kelly Benefit Strategies-OptumHealth.
On January 23, 2016 the rider was one of the six riders from Team Giant- Alpecin, who were struck by a car that was able to drive into traffic on the other side while they were practicing at Calpe, Spain. The riders were all in stable state of health.
