Chad Griggs (born May 15 1978) is an American mixed martial artist from the United States who has recently competed in the United Fighting Championship’s Light Heavyweight division. A professional fighter in 2005, he previously competed with The Tucson Scorpions of the IFL and Strikeforce.

Griggs began his career with Strikeforce in Strikeforce: Houston in August 21, 2010 . He was competing against the former professional wrestler and standout college wrestling star Bobby Lashley. Griggs beat Lashley with a TKO at the point that Lashley could not return to his spot after the 2nd round when Griggs had landed a string of strikes.

After moving down to Light Heavyweight, Griggs lost to Cyrille Diabaté via first round rear-naked choke submission on November 17, 2012 at UFC 154. He was released from the UFC on January 18, 2013.

Griggs was expected to face Phil Davis in his Light Heavyweight debut on August 4, 2012 at UFC on FOX 4. However, Griggs was forced out of the bout with an injury and replaced by promotional newcomer Wagner Prado.

Griggs won two fights shortly after being let out of the IFL. Following his second win Griggs was given a year and half off from fighting. In April of 2009, he returned to competition and won over Jon Alexander at Ultimate Style Fighting: Rumble in Wyoming.

Griggs defeated his only amateur bout by knockout within 13 seconds. He then made his professional debut in December of 2005 when he appeared on the inaugural Total Fighting Alliance card. Griggs fought and was quickly beat Johnathan Tsosie who was an opponent who was 0-3 in the moment, just 18 seconds into the round. In April of 2006 Griggs fought his second bout against UFC veterans Homer Moore, on a Rage in the Cage card. Griggs again won via TKO.

Griggs’ next fight was against Valentijn Overeem at Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum on June 18, 2011, in Dallas, Texas. He won the fight via submission to strikes in the first round.
