He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Atlanta Braves, Boston Red Sox, Seattle Mariners, Tampa Bay Rays, Cleveland Indians and Miami Marlins. He was known for setting the record for having the most consecutive put-outs without committing an error.

The Anaheim Angels selected Kotchman with the thirteenth overall pick in the 2001 Major League Baseball Draft.
