He was a Major League Baseball (MLB), player for the Detroit Tigers and Minnesota Twins, Los Angeles Dodgers as well as the Seattle Mariners and Philadelphia Phillies.
Fien was assigned to assignment on February 23, 2010 in order to make roster space for Johnny Damon. He was first selected by the Boston Red Sox on waivers, then he was again selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in March 4. He was released by the Blue Jays on March 18, and rejoined Tigers on March 20,
He finished 2012 making appearances in 35 games for the Twins, finishing the year with a 2–1 record and 4.30 ERA with 32 strikeouts.
On July 8, 2012, Fien made his debut with the Twins, pitching a scoreless 8th inning against the Texas Rangers.
He was purchased by Triple-A on June 29th, 2010 to replace Joel Zumaya who was placed onto the 15-day disability list. He was returned to Toledo in June 3. They called him again on July 20. On July 21, he was sent down to Toledo again. After the season was over, he applied for free agency.
