This makes them the fourth family to have three generations of major-leaguers. His grandfather, Joe, was a pitcher from 1942 to 1955, while his father Joe played from 1965-1979. He is also the third-generation Major League pitcher.

Coleman was not selected for the 2011 Spring Training team and was instead optioned to Triple-A Iowa. After the injuries sustained to Randy Wells and Andrew Cashner, Coleman was recalled to Chicago. He made his debut of the season against the Milwaukee Brewers on April 10.

On July 8, 2016, Coleman signed a minor league contract with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Coleman signed a minor league deal with the Seattle Mariners in December 2015. He opted out of his contract on July 2, 2016.

Coleman was optioned to Chicago’s Triple A affiliate, the Iowa Cubs on May 28,

2011. This was after Randy Wells had been activated from the 15 day disabled list. After the 2012 Season, he was recalled to minors.

Joseph Casey Coleman, born July 3, 1987, is an American professional baseball pitcher with the Toros de Tijuana in the Mexican League. He was a Major League Baseball (MLB), player for the Chicago Cubs as well as the Kansas City Royals.

The Cubs drafted Coleman in the 15th round (461st overall), of the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft. On August 2, 2010, he was called up to major leagues for the first-time. Coleman won his first major league victory on August 23, 2010, when he defeated the Washington Nationals 9-1. He also scored his first RBI in that game.

Coleman signed a minor league deal with the Kansas City Royals in April 2014. On December 15, 2014, Coleman was designated for assignment. He was outrighted to Triple-A on December 24.
