St-Hilaire declared that she will not seek re-election for the 2008 election on January 14, 2008. At a Longueuil news conference, the MP said she was excited to spend more time with her family. She stated that Maka Kotto, Bloc Quebecois MP, played a part in her decision to run in the Parti Quebecois for a provincial byelection.
