She is an English TV presenter and author. Her most notable achievements include being a presenter at TV-am, the English Breakfast Television station, and anchoring The Channel Four Daily, the Channel 4 news program.

She occasionally presented on TV-am after she left TV-am, reading the brief BBC Breakfast Time bulletins and BBC Daytime bulletins in 1988. Next came BSB, Sky News and ITN, as well as occasional filling in on LWT News in 90. She was a presenter on Channel Four Daily. This show ended in failure in 1992. Caroline was a regular presenter on the national news and was a main anchor during World War II. Caroline was Channel Four’s face for the Daily Business News in the 1990s.

In January 2006, Righton put herself forward to the Conservative Party as a prospective Member of Parliament. Placed on the party’s A-List of female and ethnic minority applicants, it was announced in 2008 that Righton would become the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for the newly created seat of St Austell and Newquay. As this was a new seat there was no incumbent MP, however, the seat was regarded as having a notional majority of 5,723 (12.44%) to the Liberal Democrats. In the election, Righton came second to Liberal Democrat Steve Gilbert, despite reducing the majority to 1,312 (2.8%).

In October 2009, she was subject to sustained and serious criticism after falsely accusing one of her opponents of publicly insulting her. Righton had sent to a residents’ association a tweet from her Liberal Democrat opponent pointing out that she had gone to a media event instead of the association’s meeting. The tweet, however, had been modified to add an insult, and Righton wrongly claimed that she was unable to verify the contents of the original.

Righton transferred her radio broadcasting skills to television. From 1985 to 1987, she moved to Windsor in Berkshire. She began presenting London Plus, the BBC London regional early-morning television show. Righton was promoted to TV- am, an already popular ITV breakfast station. She became a national TV presenter in 1987. Righton presented the initial part of TV-am until she moved over to the main Good Morning Britain program. According to on-air promotion, she was hired “to get young rising men to tune in to TV-am’s initial hour”. She joined in April 1987, and she left the station in October of that year. She also conducted interviews with Joe Bugner and Frank Bruno, heavyweight boxers, during the build-up to their fight at White Hart Lane, London. These interviews were the basis for a Video Cassette release, later reissued on DVD as Frank Bruno v Joe Bugner.
