He is the leader of his Blue Mongrels band and has also worked with Bruce Cockburn, Holly Cole and Kim Mitchell. He composed the music for Dry Lips Oughta Make a Move to Kapuskasing by Tomson Highway, which was produced in 1991. He won two gold medals at the 1999 Hohner World Harmonica Championship, Germany, in blues and jazz. He released his first album in November 1999.

Del Junco was born in Cuba, and he moved to Canada in 1959 with his family. When he was 14 years old, he began playing harmonica. He studied sculpture at the Ontario College of Art.
In the 1980s, Del Junco was a member of the Eyelevel, Ontario College of Art Swing Band and, for six years, the Buzz Upshaw Band rhythm and blues band. He formed the blues/jazz-fusion band Delcomos in 1990. He recorded with Marcel Aymar and Cassandra Vasik.
