Carla Delgado Gomez, a Canarian-Spanish actor who goes by the stage name Carla Antonelli, was born July 13, 1959 in Guimar (Tenerife, Canary Islands). She is also an activist for LGBT rights and maintains a large support site for transgender people.
The 2004 elections were won by the PSOE. However, the Congress approved gay marriage. Trans rights were not granted. Antonelli threatened a hunger strike if the PSOE majority did not adopt the Gender Identity Law (Ley de Identidad de Genero) in 2006. She was the first transsexual in the Community of Madrid who received the amended sex designation in her legal documents.
Her work has been recognized with numerous awards. In 2003, the Transsexual Collective of Madrid awarded her a medal for her pioneering efforts. In 2008, she was recognized by Andalusia and Catalonia transgender groups for her efforts in drafting the Gender Identity Act. She was awarded the 2008 Premios Latigos y Pomas by the Federacion Estatal de Gays, Lesbianas y Transexuales de Espana, and the 2009 Baeza Award for Visibility (Premia Baeza).
