She won the bronze medal at 1988 Seoul Olympics, and was part of the winning gold medal team at 1984 Summer Olympics. Her career highlights include gold medals at EuroHockey Nations Championship in 1987 and Champions Trophy 1991, as well as a gold medal at the 1990 Women’s Hockey World Cup. Carina Benninga also studied law in addition to her sporting career. She received her Masters’ degree in 1987.
Carina Benninga was an active player in sports and went on to become a professional coach. From 1993-1995, she was an assistant coach for the United States women’s hockey team. She also served as the head coach at Alecto (Leiderdorp), and, until 1999, the final technical manager at Amsterdam (premierleague). She then led HC Klein Zwitserland to the premier league from the transition grade. Benninga, a Certified Coach FIH Grade 1, is still an active hockey coach. She was also active in the sportsmen union NL Sporter that she co-founded.
As a captain of the Dutch women’s hockey team, Carina Benninga got acquainted with issues of leadership, cooperation, communication, motivation and acceptance. After her active sports career, Carina Benninga completed a series of training courses in the field of psychology and coaching. In 1994 she started her own agency for coaching and consulting.
Carina Benninga coaches and advises on the level of both personal development, team development, and organizational development. In the period 1998 – 2015, she was a director at Van Ede & Partners, a leading career and outplacement agency in the Netherlands. Since 2001, Carina Benninga focuses on The Work of Byron Katie; she is Facilitator and Presenter of The Work in Business.
Carina Bennninga was a participant in three Olympics. She won an Olympic Gold Medal at Los Angeles in 1984. The Olympic Bronze Medal was won by the Dutch women’s hockey squad at Seoul in 1988. She was the first woman from Netherlands to hold the flag at Barcelona’s 1992 Summer Olympics. This Olympic adventure ended in failure. On August 6, 1992, Carina Benninga played her last match.

Carina Benninga was a club player for HDM, HGC, and Amsterdam in the Dutch Hockey League. She made her national debut as a midfielder at the 1983 World Championships in Kuala Lumpur.
