Campino, born Andreas Frege on 22 June 1962, is a German-British actor, singer, songwriter, and actor. His most prominent role is that of the lead singer in Die Toten Hosen (a German punk rock group).

Campino has been a journalist several times. The interview he did with Angela Merkel, then youth minister of Germany, was published in 1994 by German magazine Der Spiegel. He asked her about her experiences dealing with drugs and alcohol. In 1993 he asked Paul McCartney similar questions. One year prior to the death of Strummer, he interviewed Joe Strummer, the singer of The Clash, for SZ magazine, August 2001.

He and the other band members are fans of soccer club Fortuna Düsseldorf. The band sponsored the team between 2001 and 2003. Campino also follows Liverpool F.C. and broke his foot when kicking a garbage can in frustration at a Liverpool loss. The band frequently sponsor social projects, which have included helping kids with homework, campaigning against racism in sport and helping asylum seekers afford legal representation. Campino has a son with German actress Karina Krawczyk.

Campino is a prominent media figure, both as Die Toten Hosen’s spokesperson and as an individual. Since the mid-1980s, Campino has been a guest on many television talk shows. He comments on a variety of religious and social issues. NDR television produced a documentary about his life and beliefs, which they screened in their weekly “Gott und die Welt” (God and all the World) program in 2001.

After that, he was transferred into civilian duties in a Dusseldorf psychiatric hospital with Michael Breitkopf. He was the singer of ZK from 1978 to 1982 and then founded Die Toten Hosen in Dusseldorf with Andreas von Holst and Michael Breitkopf. The early years of Die Toten Hosen were said to have been small gatherings that cost a crate beer.

Apart from a small role in the play A Clockwork Orange in Bad Godesberg in May 1998 for which Die Toten Hosen also wrote the soundtrack, he had his theatre debut playing the role of Mack the Knife in Bertolt Brecht’s “Dreigroschenoper” (engl. ‘The Beggar’s Opera’) from August to October 2006, with Gottfried John, Katrin Sass, Birgit Minichmayr and Maria Happel. The play was directed by Klaus Maria Brandauer and staged at the Admiralspalast (engl. ‘admiral’s palace’) theatre in Berlin.
