Grayson was a junior champion in New Zealand at the age of 13, 15, 17, 17 and 19. Grayson won the U-19 New Zealand International Junior Open and Australian International Junior Open in his final year of junior tennis. He was also 9th in the prestigious British Junior Open and made it to the 16th round of the 2004 World Junior Championships.

Outside of New Zealand, Grayson has won 9 PSA Professional Tour Titles, and has represented New Zealand at 5 World Senior Team Championships, and 3 Commonwealth Games (2006, 2010, 2014

Grayson started competing full-time on the PSA World Tour in 2007. As part of the New Zealand High Performance Program, Grayson relocated to Halifax, West Yorkshire, England (2007 – 2009). Thereafter, he moved to Harrogate, where he trained under the tutelage of David Pearson (2010 – 2012). He broke into the World’s Top 50 ranking in October 2009, and the Top 40 in April 2010.

Grayson was educated at Kaurilands Primary School and Glen Eden Intermediate School. He also attended Avondale College. Grayson received the NZ Prime Minister’s high performance scholarship to Unitec Institute of Technology in

2003. He majored in Sports Management. Grayson received the Unitec Sportsperson of the Year Award in 2006 and was also awarded the Squash Auckland Sportsman of the Year Award in 2009.

Grayson began playing tennis when he was six years old. He also started playing cricket and golf. Grayson, who was six years old at the time, was chosen to be part of Auckland’s elite junior tennis squad. He went on to win many Auckland Championship titles. Grayson represented Auckland at the 1996 New Zealand Junior Tennis Nationals and reached the semi-finals for the U-12 Doubles Event.

Grayson began training at Titirangi Rackets Club. Grayson then turned his attention to squash, which was also played by his father. Grayson, who won his first U-13 New Zealand Nationals title 1997, took up squash and switched to squash at the age of 11.

Following a successful junior career, Grayson’s made his debut senior appearance at the 2005 World Senior Team Championships, which was held in Pakistan. A year later, in 2006, Grayson won the Bronze Medal at the 2006 World Doubles Championships in Melbourne, Australia, with his partner, Martin Knight (squash player). This performance gained him a position in the 2006 New Zealand Commonwealth Games team. During the 2006 Commonwealth Games, Grayson was placed 4th in the Men’s Doubles Event.
