He earned all-American status and won the Great Lakes Region’s Men’s Athlete Award 2011. The award was first won by an athlete from Butler University. He went on to study mechanical engineering at the University of the West of Scotland. He had two operations on his left knee before 2013.

Hawkins represented the host country at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. He finished 20th in the men’s 10,000 meter race.

In October 2016 he again ran the Great Scottish Run and this time was the overall winner of the event in 1:00:24. This would have been a new Scottish half-marathon record, but the race was found to be 150 m too short, which invalidated the result.

Hawkins finished ninth in the marathon at the 2016 Olympics in a time of 2:11:52.

He finished seventh at the European Cross Country Championships’ men’s under-23 race in 2013. He finished fifth in the under-23 race at the 2014 European Cross Country Championships.

Callum Hawkins, a British distance runner who was born 22 June 1992, competed in the 2016 Summer Olympics marathon. He holds the Scottish marathon record and is also the British all-time third at this distance, behind Steve Jones and Mo Farah. Hawkins is also number two in Great Britain (and European all time number six) for the half-marathon. Hawkins holds the Great Scottish Run course record and is the first British man who won that event in 23-years.

Hawkins placed 47th at the 2010 IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Bydgoszcz (Poland) in a time 24 minutes 21 seconds.
