He was also a member of the Parliamentary Left, which is a left-wing organization.
In early 2019, Lischka announced that he would resign from active politics by mid-2019 and instead return to his law practice.
Lischka was a member the German Bundestag since the 2009 elections. He was a member of parliament’s Committee on Home Affairs as well as the German Parliamentary Committee that investigated the NSA spying scandal. He was also a member the Parliamentary Oversight Panel, which oversees the oversight of Germany’s intelligence agencies BND, BfV, and MAD. He was a member of the parliamentary committee responsible for appointing judges at the Highest Courts of Justice. This included the Federal Court of Justice(BGH), Federal Administrative Court (BVerwG), Federal Fiscal Court, Federal Fiscal Court and Federal Social Court (BSG).
