Fukusaki entered the Japan Shogi Association’s apprentice school in 1975 at the rank 5 kyu. In 1976, he was promoted to 1-dan and in October 1978, he achieved full professional status and the rank 4dan.
Fukusaki made his first appearance in a major match in 1986, when he faced Kunio Yonenaga to win the 25th 10dan [ja] title. Fukusaki won this match in 4 games to 2. This was his first major title. He lost to Michio Takahashi in the title match 4 games to 1.
On March 8, 2012, Fukusaki defeated Kenji Kobayashi in a Ryūō Class 4 game to become the 44th professional to win 600 official games.

Bungo Fukusaki, Fu Qi Wen Wu, Fukusaki Bungo (December 6, 1959), is a Japanese professional player of shogi ranked 9-dan. He was a former Oza major title holder and 10 dan [ja] holder.
Fukusaki was awarded the Japan Shogi Association Annual Shogi Awards in 1979 for “Best New Player”, “Best Winning Percentage” and “Distinguished Service” respectively. In 2003, Fukusaki was awarded the Japan Shogi Association’s “25 Years Service Award”, in recognition of his active professional career for over 25 years. He also received the “Shogi Honor Award,” in 2008, in recognition that he won 600 official games while a professional.
Fukusaki’s next appearance in a major title match came in 1991 when he challenged Kōji Tanigawa for the 39th Ōza title. Fukusaki defeated Tanigawa 3 games to 2, but once again was unable to defend his title the following year, this time losing to Yoshiharu Habu.
