He recorded an .262 average, with 19 RBIs and home runs during 88 games between Pawtucket as well as the Gulf Coast Red Sox, which he used for a rehabilitation assignment. He tied David Chester for the most home runs in the league.
On March 31, 2017, Brentz was outrighted off Boston’s 40-man roster, and he accepted the assignment to Pawtucket. He is out of options. On December 23, 2018, Brentz signed a minor league deal to return to the Red Sox, and was assigned to Triple-A Pawtucket. He appeared in 95 games with Pawtucket during the 2019 season, batting .216 with 18 home runs and 50 RBIs.
Brentz has been added to the Red Sox’ 40-man roster on November 20, 2013. He was a player in the minor leagues of Pawtucket during 2014, and was a part of the team that took home the Governors Cup. After Pawtucket was eliminated from the Triple-A World Series to the Omaha Storm Chasers of the Pacific Coast League, the Red Sox promoted Brentz to the major leagues and Brentz made his major league debut on the 17th of September. He scored the double against Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Francisco Liriano in his first game , the first time. Major League hit.

Brentz was a student at South-Doyle High School in Knoxville, Tennessee.
