Brian Mooney is one of the most popular and richest Irish footballer who was born on February 2, 1966 in Dublin, Ireland. Brian Mooney, (born 2 February 1966 in Dublin) is an Irish former professional footballer who gained notoriety as a skilled winger in English football. Mooney was noticed at the age of 13 by Liverpool playing for the Irish schoolboys’ Club Home Farm F.C. where he was the winner of the FAI Youth Cup. He was a student in St. Joseph’s C.B.S. in Fairview.

After his return after his return to Ireland, Mooney signed for Shelbourne F.C.. He scored twice in consecutive rounds during The 1993-94 European Cup Winners Cup. He was then moved his team to Bohemian F.C. in 1995 amid controversy2. His final game for Bohs was in a playoff for relegation in 1999 when he was removed in 1995. He was then signed by University College Dublin A.F.C. in which he was taking classes full-time at a university. In the course of his playing time within the League of Ireland, Mooney participated in the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Cup as well as playing for the League of Ireland Representative Team. Following his time with Monaghan United F.C. during 2001-2002, he resigned.

In the wake of newly-promoted Preston North End struggling in the English third division, manager John McGrath brought in both Mooney and Tony Ellis with Mooney initially on loan for a few months. Both players became an instant success, with Mooney becoming the hottest of his fellow players on Deepdale terraces. When he finished the loan period Liverpool was willing to let go Mooney for a modest sum of PS25,000. The following three-and-a-half years proved for Mooney an extremely successful period and his natural talents drawing the attention of numerous premier clubs and the attention of Republic of Ireland boss Jack Charlton. Overall, Mooney was involved in 128 matches for Preston and scored 26 goals. Mooney was a member of his country’s Republic of Ireland national under-19 football team which was selected for 1983’s UEFA European Under-18 Football Championship which, despite not losing in a group which included the eventual champions France the team was eliminated. Mooney scored in the match against French in the final at Elland Road. He also took part in the 1984 UEFA European Under-18 Football Championship.

But, in October of 1987, things turned towards the positive.
