Brian Stuart McLean (born 28 February 1985) is a professional footballer that is a defensive player with Greenock Morton in the Scottish Championship. His career began with Scotland as a young and reserve player for Rangers prior to joining Motherwell in 2005 on loan. Then he was a part of Falkirk in 2009 and then joined Preston North End in England two years after that. Following his return in Scotland as a player with Dundee United and then Ross County before moving to DPMM FC in 2015 and was awarded the S.League title during his first season. After that, he played a short time at Hibernian and then played for IBV in Iceland with IBV before returning for another stint in DPMM FC in 2018. He then returned to Scottish football with Dumbarton and played there for the 2018-19 season. He after which he signed with Greenock Morton in July 2019.

On July 18, 2008, the player sustained serious injury to his knee from a collision with Argentinian player Diego Ruiz during a pre-season match in the league against CFR Cluj. He was able to return to his first team spot on the 28th of March, 2009 with a 2-1 victory against Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

McLean was signed by Football League One club Preston North End on a two-year contract, after a trial period, on 2 August 2011. McLean scored his first goal for Preston North End against Notts County from a Paul Parry corner, heading in from about six yards out. He was transfer listed by the club in May 2012.

He signed a two-year deal with Dundee United on 14 June 2012. On 25 July 2013, it was announced McLean had left Dundee United by mutual consent; he later signed for Ross County on 30 July 2013. He left Ross County at the end of the 2013–14 season.

McLean was a member of McLean was a member of the Scotland under-17 squad before deciding for Northern Ireland, for whom McLean made one international appearance in the year 2006. Because of an administrative oversight McLean was then declared unfit to change his nationality, thereby ending his career as an international player.

Despite his birthplace within Scotland, McLean was eligible to play for Northern Ireland through his family. However, he has played in the Scotland U17’s in an UEFA tournament in 2002 which required him to declare the change of allegiance before his 21st birthday. However, due to an error in administration, McLean did not register before the deadline and is not eligible to represent Northern Ireland, effectively ending his international career. In the short time he was an international player, McLean was not a part of any competitive matches, though McLean was scheduled to participate for his first European Under-21 Championship qualifying game against Liechtenstein before being declared ineligible.

On 1 July 2009 he signed a two-year contract with Scottish Premier League side Falkirk. He became Eddie May’s first signing, but Falkirk were relegated to the First Division in 2010. McLean left Falkirk at the end of the 2010–11 season.
