Brett Lauther (born November 4 1989) is an experienced Canadian soccer punter as well as a placekicker with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He was chosen with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the seventh round of the 2013 CFL Draft. It was his first time playing CIS soccer in Saint Mary’s University and attended Cobequid Educational Centre located in Truro, Nova Scotia.

On the 25th of September on, 2017, Lauther was officially signed by the Edmonton Eskimos in response to Sean Whyte’s injury. He spent the rest of 2017 as a player on their practice squad.

On March 19, 2018, Lauther signed with the Roughriders for a third time, but participated in training camp with the team for the first time. Following an injury to incumbent kicker, Tyler Crapigna, Lauther became the team’s placekicker and enjoyed a successful 2018 CFL season that culminated in his first Divisional All-Star award. He led the league with 54 field goals from 60 attempts and also led the league in points with 198. He also had the longest successful field goal that year which was made from 56 yards out.

Lauther signed an agreement for a practice roster in the CFL’s Saskatchewan Roughriders on September 3 of 2015. His release date was the 8th of October in 2015.

Lauther was selected to The Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the CFL as the 53rd overall selection during the 2013 CFL Draft and was signed by the team on May 27, 2013. Being a native of Nova Scotia Lauther has the rare privilege of playing in his first ever professional football game in the Maritimes located at Moncton, New Brunswick, as part of the third season of Touchdown Atlantic. In the game it was announced that he was the Special Teams The Week’s Player for the week of Thirteen in the season 2013. On the 14th of October 15th, 2015, Lauther joined the roster of practice for the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL. He was let go by the team on the 19th of October 2015.
