The Miami Marlins selected Graves from the Athletics organization during the 2016 Rule 5 draft. The rookie was placed with a 60-day disabled list because of an oblique muscle strain. He then made his MLB debut on the 17th of June. He was assigned to the assignment after the season , and waived.
The Oakland Athletics selected Graves in the third round of 2014’s MLB draft. The team signed him and he played his debut professional season with the Arizona Athletics of the Rookie-level Arizona League and the Vermont Lake Monsters of the Class A-Short Season New York-Penn league, with a loss-loss record and 6.55 earned run-adjusted (ERA) in 22 innings. He played in the 2015 season playing for the Beloit Snappers of the Class A Midwest League, where the team went 12-8 and an 5.36 ERA, and the 2016 season was with the Stockton Ports of the Class A-Advanced League of California, where the team posted a 7-10 record as well as a 4.60 ERA. In 2017 he pitched for both Stockton as well as the Midland RockHounds of the Class AA Texas League, going 1-1, with an 4.47 ERA in 56 /3 total innings pitched. His 2017 season was cut short because of a strain to the ligament in the right side of his ankle.
