Brett William Eibner (born December 2 1988) is an American professional baseball player and outfielder, who is a free agent. His experience includes Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Kansas City Royals, Oakland Athletics as well as the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Kansas City Royals selected Eibner in the second round of the 2010 MLB draft. As of 2013, Eibner participated in the Northwest Arkansas Naturals of the Class AA Texas League. The Royals included him on their 40-man roster following the 2015 season.
The Royals promoted Eibner to the major leagues on May 26, 2016. He made his debut the following night at Kansas City’s Kauffman Stadium, going 1-for-3 and scoring a run while striking out twice in the Royals’ 7-5 win over the Chicago White Sox. Facing off against the White Sox on May 28, 2016, the Royals were trailing 7-1 in the 9th inning, but Eibner completed the rally with a walk-off single to win it for the Royals 8-7.
On December 22, 2017, Eibner signed a minor league contract with the Texas Rangers. He was released on March 19, 2019.
In his first year, Eibner lead the team in RBI and scored three hits that won games. In recognition of his efforts, Eibner was named to Baseball America’s All-American Freshman team in 2008. The following year, Eibner was named SEC Pitcher of the Week following his one-hit shutout win in the complete game against the number one Georgia Bulldogs. Eibner had a difficult time on the plate and his average dropped to .231 and hitting 60 times. However, in 2009 when the Arkansas Razorbacks baseball team reached the College World Series, Eibner scored “one of the most memorable home runs in program history” when the team tied an elimination game against Virginia in the ninth inning by hitting a home run that scored two runs. Eibner returned to his junior season with the Razorbacks who hit .333 and registering 22 homers. On the pitching field, Eibner went 3-5 in 58 innings for the Razorbacks during the season’s regular. At the time of the 2011 Tempe, Arizona Super Regional, Eibner hit a game-tying homer with the Razorbacks in the final strike, taking the game into extra innings in which the Razorbacks were defeated on the 12th. After the 2010 season, Eibner was one of the four Razorback that was selected as as a freshman All-American as well as an All-American alongside co-teammate Zack Cox. Eibner has also been the John Olerud Award semi-finalist, Second Team All-SEC and ABCA/Rawlings’ the First Team All South Region player.
